(August 9, 2021) –The 96th year of live thoroughbred horse racing that began as Fairmount Park Racetrack and rebranded as FanDuel Sportsbook & Horse Racing culminates with the return of the FanDuel St. Louis Derby on August 28! Guests are enjoying new additions this year beginning with the opening of the FanDuel Sportsbook in March, Willy the Bugler playing before each race, live performances of the National Anthem by Cheyenne Kostyshock, and the popular Slick Pick 7. The $250,000 purse, provided by title sponsor FanDuel Group, will undoubtedly attract many of the Top 3-Year-Old Thoroughbreds in the Midwest and nationally. The FanDuel St. Louis Derby will be a steppingstone for the Elite Thoroughbreds to advance to the Breeders Cup in November. “As we have for this entire season, our goal is to WOW! our guests and transform the tradition into a top-level entertainment facility,” said Melissa Helton, President & General Manager. “Our plan is to create a festival-like weekend for families and horse racing enthusiasts that will create lasting memories.” Kicking off the weekend is the #1 Tom Petty cover band Free Fallin (https://www.freefallin.us/) on Friday, August 27, at 5 p.m. followed by live Friday night racing with the first post time at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s first post time is 7:30 p.m., and the $250,000 FanDuel St. Louis Derby will run at approximately 10:15 p.m. Derby Day special events include skydivers descending onto the track during the National Anthem, three $100 MegaBet drawings, and a Derby Hat Contest with prizes totaling $500. Plans are also underway for a Budweiser Clydesdale to be on property. Guests will enjoy food trucks in addition to beverages provided by Derby sponsors Evan Williams Bourbon, Deep Eddy Vodka, and Budweiser. TVG
